AKRONGreen energy tour AKRON: Green efforts by the Akron Zoo, Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, and Crown Point Ecology Center will be showcased from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday during the ninth annual Green Energy Ohio Tour.Participants will meet at the Akron Zoo, 500 Edgewood Ave., at 9:30 a.m. to sign in, then caravan to each location for a tour.During the tour, Crown Point Ecology Center in Bath will feature a walking tour that will highlight its practical applications of ecology. Participants will go back to the zoo to see the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building, the Komodo Kingdom, and the park’s newest green space, Farmland.Lunch will be provided by Earth Fare at the zoo, to the first 50 people who register.The tour will conclude at the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm on Smith Road in Akron, where participants will tour the LEED Platinum building.Participation is free, but registration is required by calling 330-375-7211, Ext. 7211.The Green Energy Ohio Tour, the largest demonstration of installed, renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency building practices in the United States, is part of the National Solar Tour managed by American Solar Energy Society.STARK COUNTYBuilding showcasePERRY TWP.: Twelve locations will be showcased Saturday and Sunday in Stark County’s portion of Green Energy Ohio’s tour of renewable energy and energy-efficient homes and buildings.The event will include a bus tour of eight of the local sites from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Transportation will be provided by the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority.The tour will depart from the Exploration Gateway, 5712 12th St. NW. Tickets are available from the candidates, the Palace Theatre box office, the Repository and WHBC.SUMMIT COUNTYLet’s Move eventAKRON: The program Let’s Move Summit County will host a fall family hiking spree from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Firestone Metro Park/Coventry Oaks Pavilion, 40 Axline Ave.The free event will feature family-friendly games, special guests and activities, giveaways, healthy snacks and nutrition information.The first 300 youngsters to arrive are guaranteed prizes and all attendees who arrive prior to 2:30 p.m. will be eligible for a grand prize drawing. Hikers also can receive spree credits toward Metro Parks rewards.County Councilwoman Paula Prentice spearheaded the program to promote health and wellness.Adoption meetingAKRON: Summit County Children Services is sponsoring a free foster-care and adoption information meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Goodyear Branch, Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 Goodyear Blvd. Those attending will learn more about foster care and adoption, including what and how long the process is, what kind of support is provided by the agency, and the costs involved.The event is open to the entire community and reservations are not needed.
